Harold J. Uhlenhopp, 73, of Sumner, died Friday morning, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, from cancer. Funeral services were held October 23 at the United Methodist Church in Sumner. Harold John, son of Chris J. and Alpha (Yon) Uhlenhopp, was born April 19, 1927 at Eagle Grove. He attended rural school in Wright County and graduated from Belmond High School in 1945. He entered the U.S. Army and served for two years in Vienna, Austria. On October 3, 1947, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Holgate in Ames. He owned and operated Uhlenhopp Truck Line, Inc., and farmed for several years. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry; one grandson; his parents; one sister, Betty Haupt; and one brother, Wesley. Survivors are his wife, Kathryn; two daughters and two sons; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Buss of Parkersburg; one brother, Roger of Cedar Falls; one brother-in-law, Ernest Haupt; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Uhlenhopp.
