Werner E. Buhr, 85, of Goldfield died Saturday, December 23, 2000, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City from injuries sustained from an accident at his home. His funeral service was held Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, with Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
Werner E. Buhr was born on May 13, 1915 at Elma, IA to William and Bertha (Kuchenmeister) Buhr. He was married Esther Ball on June 3, 1936. Werner moved his family to Goldfield in 1955 where he operated his Tree Service and Sawmill until his death. Werner was an area businessman in the Goldfield area for the last 50 years. He was an active member of Alcholics Anonymous (AA) and a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertha; his first wife Esther; his son Donald; a daughter, at birth; seven brothers: Fred, Walter, Henry, Carl, Art, John, Bernard; and by three sisters: Nora, Etta, and an infant girl. He is survived by his wife Sadie, eight children: Wilfred Buhr of Goldfield; Weldon Buhr and his wife Beth of Eagle Grove; Dewayne Buhr and his wife Cheral of Manning; Allen Buhr and his wife Dianna of Spirit Lake; LaVonne and her husband William Holman of Cassville, MO; Dallas Buhr and his wife Cheryl of Eagle Grove; Pamela and her husband Ernie Lewis of Goldfield; Ivan Buhr of Jackson, MN, two step-daughters: Mary Wheeler and her husband Dennis of Pleasant Hill, and Carolyn Boyle and her husband David of Earlham; 27 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren.
