IOWA FALLS-JoAnn Grupe, 76, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa.

JoAnn Anderson, was born on February 11, 1932 in Rowan, to Arnold and Thelma (Hackley) Anderson. She graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1949. On June 3, 1951, she married Frank Grupe in her parents’ home in Marshalltown. They lived in Iowa Falls. To this union two children were born. JoAnn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls and most recently worked at the Iowa Falls Dairy Queen until June 2002. By many people, she will always be remembered affectionately as “The Dairy Queen Lady.” She enjoyed attending coffee in the mornings, spending time with her family, being with the public, spending time with Coconut (the dog) and taking shopping excursions to Waterloo.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Frank; a daughter, Kris of Iowa Falls; a son, Scott of West Des Moines; one brother, Michael Anderson and wife, Celene of Marshalltown; three sisters-in-law, Esther Skartvedt of Radcliffe, Evelyn (Marlyn) Paul of Swea City and Susan (Rich) Newhall of Dunkerton; one brother-in-law, Bill (Donna) Grupe of Salem, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law, Elsie Haugland; and one brother-in-law, Dale Grupe.
