Funeral services were held for Rev. Dr. Carroll E. Usher, 68, on June 30, 2000 at Our Savior United Methodist Church in Manson. Rev. Martha Bennett officiated and Rev. Roger Madden gave the Eulogy. Burial was in the Union Cemetery, Pomeroy. Carroll Usher was born on February 10, 1932 at Williams. He was the son of Worthie and Minnie (Blank) Usher. Carroll was raised in Rowan and graduated from Rowan High School in 1949. He received his BA from Morningside College in 1953. On November 22, 1953, he married Joan Albrecht. Carroll received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Garrett Seminary and was ordained in 1960. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Morningside College in 1984. Carroll was pastor of eight different churches including Shell Rock, Tama-Montour, Urbandale and Fort Dodge during his thirty-nine years of ministry for the United Methodist Church. He also served as District Superintendent of the Waterloo district. Following his retirement in 1994, Carroll served as an interim pastor for the United Church of Christ in Manson. Carroll was a member of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Manson. He enjoyed church activities, family visits, travel, computer and golf in his spare time. He died while visiting his son on June 26, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Joan of Manson, 4 children, ten grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, a brother Rev. Dr. Worthie Usher and Helen of Grand Prairie, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
