June 23, 2000Fred J. Lindaman, 90, of Belmond, and formerly of Waterloo, died at his home on Saturday, June 17, 2000, of natural causes. Funeral services were on Wednesday, June 21, at Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo, with pastor Dave VanNetten officiating. Interment was at Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
Fred was born November 12, 1909, in rural Wellsburg, Grundy County, the son of Richard and Tillie Hickman Lindaman. He married Fannie
Flesner on April 29, 1936, in Aplington. Fred worked for John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 35 years as a spray painter, retiring in 1971. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Fred and Fannie were charter members of Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo and Fred served as elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He was able to attend the church's 50th anniversary celebration, which was held in May of this year. After his retirement in 1971, Fred continued to stay active, helping neighbors and his children with home projects. In 1997 Fred moved to Belmond when his wife became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center. He traveled many miles to watch his grandchildren in their athletic events and school programs.Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son; two brothers, John and Delbert Lindaman; and a sister, Mary Cobie. Survivors are his wife, Fannie of Belmond; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Joan Lindaman of Humboldt; a daughter and son-in-law, Fonda and Doug Thompsen of Belmond; five grandchildren Matt Lindaman and his wife Kara, Ben Lindaman and his wife Erica, Jon Lindaman, Ashley Thompsen and Lindsay Thompsen; and one great grandchild.
