Paul M. Smith, 91, of Webster City, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Trinity Regional Medical Center at Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Joe T. Fogle officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Paul Millard Smith, son of Claude and Marie Christenson Smith, was born August 18, 1915 on a farm south of Kamrar. He graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1932. On May 25, 1940, he married Geraldine Lorraine Lunning at Bethany, Mo. From 1943 to 1946, he served with the U.S. Army with the 791st anti-aircraft company. Following his discharge, he drove a truck for Milo Edvenson, Hans Oppadahl and Maudlin Construction. He also worked for Barber Coleman at Rockford, IL. for a short time. In 1950, he started farming South of Eagle Grove. They retired to Webster City in 1980.

Paul is survived by his wife, Gerry; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Merrifield of Monument, CO; grandchildren, Michael Smith of Des Moines; Jennifer Kos of Phoenix, AZ; Gregory Merrifield of Dallas, TX; Jeremy Smith of Fort Dodge; Christopher Merrifield of Coldwater MS; Bethany Ross of Stuart; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Claude (Bill) Smith of Eagle Grove; Wayne Smith of Panquitch, UT; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary in 2004; his parents; brothers, Francis and Ralph Smith; sisters, Fern Austin, Peg Zatloukal, Dorothy Hilpipre, and Pauline Rapp.

He was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Eagle Grove, a present member of the First Baptist Church of Webster City, a member of the American Legion Post # 191 and a member of the Moose Family Center.
