January 23, 2004Harry E. Barrick, 76, of Webster City, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 at the Israel Family Hospice House at Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brian Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Blairsburg Cemetery, north of Blairsburg. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday.
Harry Eugene Barrick, son of Amos and Bernice Ayers Barrick, was born March 25, 1927 on a farm northeast of Blairsburg. He attended rural schools and graduated from Blairsburg high school in 1945. On August 8, 1948, he married Carole Jeanette Tulp at Rowan. The couple farmed in the Blairsburg area and Wright County. They returned to their Blairsburg farm in 1963 and retired to Webster City in 1993. Mrs. Barrick died July 6 1995. On July 19, 1997, he married Viola Crystal Short at Webster City. The couple resided at Webster City.
Mr. Barrick is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Linda Barrick of Webster City; Wayne and Libby Barrick of Fort Worth, Tx.; Scott and Kathryn Barrick of Blairsburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and John Wade of Fort Dodge; Bonnie and Stephen McNeal of Seattle, Wa.; step-children, Dennis and Kathy Short of Webster City; Darle and Linda Short of Potomac, Md.; Dianne and Chris Hodges of Kansas City, Mo.; Duane and Natalie Short of Ames; 21 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Duane and Charles Barrick of California; Frank Barrick of Center Point, Ia.; Jerry Barrick of Bondurant; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, Carole, he was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary and Beth Barrick; brother, Ray Barrick.
He was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational at Blairsburg and the Faith United Methodist Church at Webster City, Blairsburg Lions Club, Blairsburg Co-op Board member, Hamilton County Court House Planning Committee, 4-H leader for many years, Hamilton County Fair Superintendent (hog department), avid hunter and fisherman.
