Wayne Highland, 92, Webster City, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, Webster City with Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, with graveside military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #191.

Ross Wayne Highland, son of Ross and Nellie Nelson Highland was born May 7, 1912 at Goldfield. He received his education from the Goldfield Public Schools. Wayne served with the U.S. Army during WW II. On Nov. 29, 1941, he married Cleo N. Fugate at Bethany, Mo. The couple resided in Kellerton and Eagle Grove, following Wayne’s career in the restaurant business. The couple moved their family to Fort Dodge where he was employed by the Fort Dodge Public Schools until his retirement. Following his retirement, the couple moved to Webster City. He had been residing at Southfield since December of 2003.

In addition to his wife, Cleo, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Starla K. and Herb Herbolsheimer of Woodinville, WA.; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. and Kathie Highland of Webster City; Richard E. and Kay Highland of Wenatchee, WA., Ronald R. Highland of Bartlet, Ill.; grandchildren, Lori Wallace, Joni Swedelius, Brett Herbolsheimer. Melissa Anderson, Mindy Jackson, Robert J. Highland, Erik Highland, Justin Highland, Jennifer Highland and Jason Highland; step grandchildren, Debra Nessa, Robert Stapp, and the late Angela Hartnett and Richard Stapp Jr.; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Deloris Sawyer of Mason City; several nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edna Highland; and brothers, Merrill Highland and Kenneth Bangston. He was member of the Church of Christ in Webster City, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post #130 of Fort Dodge.
