HUMBOLDT, IA - Nora S. Hefty, 92, of Humboldt, passed away on Saturday (June 1, 2002) at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with the Rev. J.K. Raether and the Rev. Richard Merrill officiating. Burial will be in the LuVerne Cemetery in LuVerne. Visitation was held on Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mrs. Hefty is survived by her daughter, Jane Billings, of Mason City; son, Dennis Hefty, of Renwick; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Elsie Fittje, of Columbus, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John J. Hefty; daughter, Norma Jean Fuhr; and granddaughter, Cheryl Fuhr.

Nora Sybilla Hoesly, the daughter of Sam and Martha (Streblow) Hoesly, was born Aug. 16, 1909, at Creston, Neb. She was baptized on Oct. 16, 1909, at St. Peter Lutheran Church and received her education in country schools in the Creston area. Following her education she helped on the family farm. On March 4, 1935, she was united in marriage to John J. Hefty at Creston, Neb. The couple made their home on a farm two miles north of Renwick until moving to the Hefty family farm. The couple retired in 1984 and made their home in Humboldt. Mr. Hefty passed away in 1992, and she continued to maintain her home in Humboldt until her death.
