September 6, 1995KLEMME, IA --- Judith Ruth Johnson, 72, of Klemme, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 1995)at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., where she had participated in a research program for cardiomyopathy the past few years. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ell Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the family of Judith Johnson or to the United Methodist Church handbell fund.
Judith Ruth (Ceder) Johnson, the daughter of John Albert Ceder and Florence Mabel Ceder (nee) Oleson, was born June 10, 1923, at Algona. She graduated from Lake Township Humboldt County grade school and Renwick Community High School and graduated in 1941. She attended Simpson College in Indianola, and American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She worked at the Ankeny Ordnance Plant and at Beatrice Foods in Des Moines, auditing books for the salesman. On Dec. 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Corporal Robert Clarence Johnson at the home of her parents at Humboldt. While Bob was in the service on Guam, she returned to work at Beatrice
Foods. Bob and Judy made their home in Renwick, where two children were born, Margaret Ann and Marlin Alan. They moved to Klemme in 1952, where they engaged in farming. Judy enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and raising her children. They retired from the farm and ran the Klemme "66" Service Station. For many years, Judy served as director of Happy Arc in Garner. She was a 4-H leader, Cub Scout leader, Sunday school superintendent, member of Klemme United Methodist Women, Miriam Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, one of the original members of the Klemme Methodist Handbell Choir and served on many committees of the church. She was a tireless volunteer, enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and going to their activities. She enjoyed golf, cross-stitch, quilting, caring for flower beds, handbells, traveling, and played the role of Mrs. Soames in the play,"Our Town," for Klemme's centennial.She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert, of Klemme; daughter, Margaret Tue and her husband, Mark, of Klemme; son, Marlin Johnson of Klemme; grandchildren, Miekka Katter, a student at NIACC; John Katter of Klemme; Morgan Tue of Klemme; Eric Johnson and his wife, Shawna, of Des Moines; and Michael Johnson of Klemme; stepgrandson, Drew Nelson of Monroe; great-granddaughter, Kayla Johnson of Des Moines; longtime friend, Rita Mae Rossman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret, Lillian, and Ruby Ann; and a grandson, Marlin Jr.
