Virgil Gage, 89, of Webster City, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church, with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. until service on Wednesday with a lunch at 12 p.m. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Virgil James Gage, son of James and Maud Studley Gage was born on May 3, 1919 at Webster City, Iowa. He received his education from Webster City schools graduating in 1938. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in World War II. On September 19, 1950 he married Lillian Fredericksen at Boone, Iowa. He was self employed in various endeavors. He owned and operated the Shady Oaks restaurant from 1950 to 1954. In 1963 the family moved to Eagle Grove where he owned and operated the A&W Drive-In for 30 years. In 1977 the family moved back to Webster City. He retired in 1989. In addition Virgil always enjoyed his ability of being a handyman. Virgil is survived by his wife, Lillian; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Deb Gage of Algona; Chris and Felicia Gage of Boone; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both his parents, sisters, Velma Crovisier, Mae Benson, Velda Apel, Hila Bergeson and Mabel Warwick; brothers, Clifford and Clarence Gage. Virgil was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #191. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed being a member at Briggs Woods Golf Course and a diehard Iowa Hawkeye fan. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the discretion of the family.
