DOWS- O. R. “Bud” Johanson
Otto Ragnar Johanson, the son of Otto E. and Anna M. (Williamson) Johanson, was born on May 24, 1918, in Badger, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1938. He served in the United States Navy during W.W. II, from April of 1942 until his honorable discharge in October of 1945. On October 15, 1944, Bud was united in marriage with Amy D. Oakland, in Badger. The couple lived in Laurel, Iowa, where Bud managed a lumberyard. In 1951, they moved to Dows and started farming, retiring in 1989. Bud loved horses, gardening and woodworking.
Bud passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Maurice Johanson; sister, Charlotte Fevold and a granddaughter, Andrea Johanson. Survivors include his wife, Amy Johanson; sons: Paul M. Johanson and wife Melissa of Leland, Dennis B. Johanson and wife Gloria of Britt, Mark E. Johanson and wife Jackie of Duchesne, UT and John S. Johanson and wife Lisa of Arlington Heights, IL; daughters: Diane Ryerson and husband Rich of Pella and Cynthia Wilson and husband Wyman of Vancouver, WA; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a sister, Oline Chantland of Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Dows with Pastor Bob Edwards officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Dows. Burial will be in Otis Grove Cemetery near Dows. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
