April 21, 2001Edgar J. Brooks, 85, of Hibbing died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in Golden Crest Health Care Center, Hibbing. He was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Rowan, Iowa, to Fred and Ina (Snyder) Brooks. He grew up and attended school at Buck Lake. On March 21, 1935, he was united in marriage with Allie Peratalo in Grand Rapids. Following marriage, the couple made their home at Buck Lake. The couple owned and operated the Napoleon Lake Resort at Napoleon Lake and later owned and operated the world renowned Brooks Taxidermy Shop in Minneapolis for 30 years. The book, ''Back To Buck Lake,'' was published as a biography of Edgar and Allie Brooks. In 1974, the couple returned to Buck Lake, making Hibbing their home in 1992. Edgar was a member of the Nashwauk Lutheran Church, the Maple Hill Senior Citizens and Community Senior Citizens. He formed the Coo-Coo Band that played at various senior citizens organizations, nursing homes, and at the DECC in Duluth. He had also been a speaker at AA meetings.
He was preceded in death by brothers George and Fred Brooks; sisters Thelma Moellering, Marjorie Mantle, Ruth Brooks; and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Allie Brooks; a daughter, Marjorie (Earl) Kitchen of Grandy, Minn.; grandsons Keith (Debbie) Kitchen of Augusta, Wis., Kelly (Molly) Kitchen of South St. Paul; a great-granddaughter, Katie Kitchen of South St. Paul; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Range Funeral Home, Hibbing, and continuing from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Nashwauk Lutheran Church, Nashwauk. Burial in Nashwauk Cemetery.
