Eagle Grove – Gordon Dennis Young, the son of Almond and Mary (Seay) Young, was born December 6, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. He served with United States Marines from 1956 to 1959. He then transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves. Gordy enjoyed fishing, camping and working on old John Deere Tractors. He drove truck for Umthun Trucking for 13 years, then for Smithway Motor Xpress for 24 years. Gordy retired at age 65. Gordy passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City at the age of 70 years. He was preceded in death by his parents a grandchild, Erin Van Houten and his brother, Elliot Young. Gordon is survived by his son, Lonnie Young of Eagle Grove; daughter, Melissa Van Houten and husband Mark of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Hanson and husband Bruce of Eagle Grove; sons, Rodney Slagle and Ryan Slagle, both of Eagle Grove; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers and sisters, Marilyn Strain (Harold) of Webster City, Shirley Rickard (Rick) of Spokane, WA, Gary Young of Webster City, Victor Young (Barbara) of Webster City, Terrance Young (Pat) of Phoenix, AZ. Memorial services will be Monday, March 16, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, 602 North Washington in Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family
