Funeral Services for Alvin W. Klunder, 94, of Greene, were 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene. Visitation was 4-8 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2009 at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene. Visitation continued one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the Church.

Alvin William Klunder was born April 20, 1914, near Clarksville, Fremont Twp, Butler Co., IA a son of Ernest and Melusine (Mueller) Klunder and died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville. He received his education in the Fremont Twp rural schools. As a young man he worked at John Deere. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Steere on June 13, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Macon, MO. Alvin began farming for himself, which he continued to do throughout his life, retiring in 1989. Alvin enjoyed his farm, mowing, tying quilts and cruising around the country in his pickup, visiting family and friends. His greatest joy was his family and he will always be remembered as a loving and giving dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Living family members include: his children, Richard (Rose) Klunder of Greene, Jim (Joyce) Klunder of Ventura, Judy (Richard) Laube of Charles City, and Patty Meek of Ackley, IA; 18 grandchildren: Kelly (Rafael) Morales, Brook (Kris) Klunder, Cameron Klunder, Darin (Shelley) Klunder, Kara (Jim) Trotter, Jimmy (Susie) Klunder, Joe (Tatia) Klunder, Jayne (Phil) Zwanziger, Jennifer Klunder, Jason (Autumn) Klunder, Justin (Nikki) Klunder, Tim (Christy) Laube, Tom (Jeannie) Laube, Trinity Laube, Ty Laube, Jamie (Jamie) Meek, Brandie Meek, Dustie Meek, 36 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchild and Tabby; also surviving are two sisters: Arlene Klunder of Clarksville, and Gladys Stobbe of Clarksville, is also survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; sisters: Lela Wedeking, Meta Kolb, and Esther in infancy; five brothers: Otto Klunder, Ernest Klunder, William Klunder, Harvey Klunder, Ewald Klunder, son-in-law, Jim Meek.
