EAGLE GROVE - Mary L. Peterson, the daughter of Otis U. and Margaret M. (Fogerty) Thorn, was born October 10, 1919, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth. On September 8, 1939, Mary was united in marriage with Charles Peterson. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. She worked at the Egg Plant in Eagle Grove, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Guild. Mary enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing 500, High School sporting events, and entertaining family in her home. Mary passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, at the age of 89 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chic in 1990; infant son, Charles; son, Larry; brothers, Robert (Dice) and Donald Thorn, and grandson Donavon Darland. Survivors include her sons: John Peterson of Eagle Grove, Tom Peterson and wife Denise of Eagle Grove, Mike Peterson and wife Julie of Ames; daughter, Linda Darland and husband Doug of Clarion; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Merline Peterson of Eagle Grove and Eva Strohman of Forest City and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 9, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Reverend Nils Hernandez officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Center. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Memorials will be left to the discretion of the family.
