STORM LAKE, Iowa - Kenneth LeRoy Newbrough, 76, of Storm Lake died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake following a brief illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Storm Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ken Bell officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Amvets Post 66. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Mr. Newbrough was born April 2, 1924, in Vincent, Iowa, the son of Lester and Anna (Johnson) Newbrough. He attended country school in Colfax Township and graduated from Fort Dodge (Iowa) Senior High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. 8th Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a B-17 turret and tail gunner with the 398th Bombardment Group/603rd Squadron, 1st Air Division, stationed in Nuthhampstead, England. He flew 31 missions. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and The Air Medal. He married Dorothy M. "Pat" White on April 8, 1944, in Badger, Iowa. The couple had lived in several Iowa communities. They moved to Storm Lake in 1977. He was employed with Seig Co. in Iowa Falls, Carroll, Storm Lake and Fort Dodge. He then became a co-owner of Storm Lake Honda, retiring in 1986. His wife died Aug. 3, 2000. He was a member of Storm Lake United Methodist Church, Fort Dodge Senior High Alumni Association, Elks Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason, Jewel Masonic Lodge 309 of Storm Lake, Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City, Sioux City Consistory, American Legion Post 115 of Alta, Iowa, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6172, Eighth Air Force Historical Society and Lake Creek Country Club. He enjoyed playing cards and golfing.

Survivors include three daughters, Pat Schug of Pocahontas, Iowa, Peg and her husband, Larry Schultz of Storm Lake, and Pam and her husband, Craig Phillips of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren, Jed, Dan and Katie Schug, Jeff and Kelly Schultz and Josh and Jake Phillips; a sister and her husband, Helen and Dick Cooper of Caldwell, Idaho; five sisters-in-law, Louise and her husband, Ernie Thiessen of Paso Robles, Calif., Maxine Wilcox of Sioux City, Betty Meyer of Fort Dodge, Orrine and her husband, Dic Chute of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jo and her husband, Jake Stahl of Lafayette, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond; a sister, Leila; and a son-in-law, Jay Schug.
