SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Marie Vreeman-Shepherd, 99, formerly of Sioux Center died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Burial will be prior to the service Tuesday in Memory Garden Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Marie Vreeman-Shepherd was born Aug. 8, 1909, in Kanawha, Iowa, one of 13 children blessed to Peter and Ann (Rozeboom) Roskamp. She was united in marriage to Dick Vreeman on Feb. 16, 1928, in Edgerton, Minn. They settled in Sioux Center. She owned and operated the Spot Cafe in downtown Sioux Center for many years. She later operated a custom drapery business. She married Dick Shepherd on Feb. 25, 1984 in Lake Worth, Fla. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Lake Worth. She was a member of Christian Reformed Churches throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Reathal Ann "Dolly" Van Peursem of Lantana, Fla.; her son and his wife, W.D. "Bud" and Delma Vreeman of Ireton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Caroline Hannenburg of Edgerton, Minn., Florence Vanden Bosch of Edgerton, Esther Trump of Pella, Iowa, Ramona (Eugene) Westra of Slayton, Minn., and Joyce (Marvin) Tinklenberg of Edgerton; a sister-in-law, Sena Vreeman of Sheldon, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dick Vreeman on May 21, 1974; her second husband, Dick Shepherd on April 24, 1996; three grandchildren; a brother, Clares Roskamp; and six sisters, Pearl De Koe Koek, Minnie Walhof, Wilma Van Den Berg, Edna Loenhorst and two in infancy. The Vreeman family prefers memorial to Hope Haven.
