SPENCER, Iowa - Arnold Eugene Barber, 71, of Spencer died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998 at Spencer Hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warner Chapel in Spencer with the Rev. Wendy Van Tassel and the Rev. Paul Hansen officiating. The body was cremated. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, with military services conducted by Glen Pedersen Post 1, American Legion and Clay County Post 3159, Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Spencer. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Barber was born March 22, 1927 in Exeter, Neb., the son of John N. and Elsie C. (Kraft) Barber. His early education through his junior year was in Exeter. He spent his senior year with his brother, graduating from Dows, Iowa. He was married to Renee Dixie Randall on March 5, 1955 in Sioux City. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Denver, with a bachelor of science degree and a bachelor of arts degree and the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor of arts degree, secondary education in business and science. He was employed by the American Breeders Service in DeForest, Wis., Omaha, Neb. and Palo Alto, Calif., and held offices as sales manager. He joined Allied Chemical as a fieldman in northwest Kansas, living in Oberlin, Kan. He later joined BASF Corporation as a senior sales respresentative, traveling in Iowa and South Dakota, while living in Spencer the past 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Spencer and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Spencer. He was a member life member of the Dairy Shrine Club and an honorary member of the Future Farmers of America. He served on the board of directors of the Kansas Fertilizer and Chemical Institute. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Golden Kiwanis in Spencer as well as the Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

Survivors include two sons, Jon Kelly of Houston, Texas and Jay Edwin of Annapolis, Md.; two granddaughters, Kimbel and Kassi; one sister, Geraldine and her husband, Dr. George Warner of Twin Falls, Idaho; one sister-in-law, Arlene of Clear Lake, Iowa and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dr. Sterting Barber and one infant brother.
