STORM LAKE, Iowa - Wilbur J. "Wig" Wiegand, 89, of Storm Lake died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake following a brief illness. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Fratzke Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Bell of Storm Lake Untied Methodist church officiating. Private family burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Wiegand was born Feb. 26, 1912, in Hartley, Iowa, the son of Fred J. and Grace (Meleck) Wiegand. He graduated from high school in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He attended Iowa State Teachers College, now known as the University of Northern Iowa. He married Amelia L. "Amy" Greenlander on June 20, 1938, in Belmond, Iowa. The couple moved to Storm Lake in 1950. He founded Lake Electric Co. The couple wintered and then lived in Texas for 21 years, returning to Storm Lake in 1994. His wife died Jan. 12, 1998. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Jewel Lodge 309, and served on the founding board of Lake Creek Country Club. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jon and Janet of Storm Lake; a daughter and her husband, Kay and Robert Kraai of Sioux Center; six grandchildren, Jennifer Felton, Chad Wiegand, Scott, Jeff and Jamie Kraai and Jody Skinner; five great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Lynwood and Betty of Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Lucille Sharp of Clearwater, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Peg Kephart of Des Moines.
