ONAWA, Iowa -- Maxine (Laidley) Morris, 77, of Onawa, formerly of Meservey, Iowa, passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem United Methodist Church in Meservey, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service of Onawa and Dugger Ewing of Belmond, Iowa.

Maxine (Laidley) Morris was born April 18, 1927, in Estherville, Iowa, to Lawrence and Blanche Laidley. She married Marvin "Pat" Morris on July 3, 1946, in Albert Lea, Minn. The couple made their home in Meservey, on the family farm. Upon retiring, the couple spent their summers on Big Pelican Lake, Minn. and their winters in Casa Grande, Ariz. On July 19, 2004, she moved to the Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa. She loved to golf, fish, garden and bird watch. She belonged to Salem United Methodist Church in Meservey. She is survived by her children, Rick Morris and his wife, Mary of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Terry Morris of Belmond, Iowa, and Marsha and her husband, Mike Ingebretson of Onawa; six sisters, Lorraine Eddy of Rockwell, Iowa, Marilyn and her husband, Les Hinderaker of Story City, Iowa, Janet and her husband, Duane Nessa of Garden City, Iowa, Janice and her husband, Kenneth Brandt of Hubbard, Iowa, Maridee and her husband, Dennis Ward of Belmond, Iowa, and Judy Laidley of Mount Gilead, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Tod Morris and his fiancee, Kathy of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Amy Brock of Champion, Minn., Wendy and her husband, Jeff Georgeson of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Willie Morris and his friend, Lea of Meservey, Iowa, Waylon Morris and his wife, Linzie of Belmond, Iowa, Brandon Ingebretson and his wife, Eliza of Omaha and Megan Ingebretson of Houston, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Rickie, Breanna, Nathan and Alexis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Harvey Polsdofer; and her beloved husband, Pat who passed away Feb. 16, 1994.
