CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Miriam F. "Mim" Barickman, 89, of Belmond, Iowa, formerly of Cherokee, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond following a three-week illness. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Gregg Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barickman was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Cherokee County, Iowa, to Herbert and Miriam (Farran) Gates. She attended school in Cherokee and graduated from Wilson High School in 1931. She later attended and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Kankakee, Ill. She worked as a registered nurse at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for many years. On Aug. 19, 1939, she married Julius Barickman in Cherokee. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1970. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards with family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Lance and her husband, Al of Lakeside, Calif.; two sons, Robert Barickman and his wife, Mary of Santee, Calif., and Grant Barickman and his wife, Bonnie of Belmond; seven grandchildren, Julie, Annette, Angie, John, Beth, Lynn and Tara; and several great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Karl; and a sister, Gladys.
