Harlan R. Klave, 65, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, following a lengthy bout with cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Harlan Rudy Klave was born Dec. 18, 1941, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Rudolph J. and Anna (Steinfadt) Klave. He attended country school through the eighth grade, graduating from Akron (Iowa) High School in 1960. He began as a teller with First National Bank of Akron at the age of 17. After high school graduation, he was offered a full-time position and worked his way to vice president, serving for 23 years at this banking institution. He married Kathy Stinton on Sept. 6, 1964. They were married for 23 years. He served as president of the North Iowa State Bank of Belmond and executive vice president of the First National Bank of West Union. He graduated from World Wide College of Auctioneering in 1988 and worked as an auctioneer and real estate agent in Mason City, Iowa. He married Sylvia Ingamells Nielsen on May 26, 1990, in Sioux City. He graduated from Morningside College in 1996 with a bachelor of science degree in business, with an emphasis in finance. He served as the manager of the Sioux City Postal Workers Credit Union in Sioux City. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was active in community organizations. He served on the city council and as school board treasurer in Akron, Iowa. He also served as president of the church council, Sunday School superintendent and teacher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners while in Akron, as well as the Akron Gun Club and Akron Opera House, where he won the award for best supporting actor in 1979. He was an active member of the Lions Club throughout his adult life and was a proud recipient of the Warren G. Coleman Award for Dedicated Service to Lionism. His hobbies included golf and skeet shooting and he was a small plane pilot. He had a passion for collecting coins and currency and enjoyed dealing at coin shows.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; their children, Rachel and Austin of Sioux City; his daughter and her husband, Christine and Alan Armstrong of Akron, his daughter and her husband, Judith and Linn Larson of Belmond, Iowa; his son and his wife, Tracy and Heidi Klave of Baraboo, Wis.; his daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Dr. Seth Elwood of Sioux City; his daughter and her husband, Dr. Jacqueline and Isaac Hodgins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Casey and Kaitlin Armstrong, Heidi Larson, Jacob Klave, Madeline Suzanne and Christian Hodgins; a niece and her husband, Shelia and Gary Petz; and a sister-in-law, Martha Klave. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold Klave. Memorials may be made to the Harlan R.
