Mildred Jane (Slusher) Jurgenson was born May 4, 1921 in Stanford, Kentucky to Morgan and Martha Kinningham Slusher. She attended schools in Kentucky and graduated from Red Bird Mission School, Beverly, Kentucky in 1940. She graduated with a two-year teaching certificate from Union (Westmar) College, Lemars, Iowa in 1942. Jane taught school in Alexander, Iowa during the 1942-43 school year. She met G. Earl Jurgenson, a family practice physician in Meservey while visiting her friend's Salem E.U.B. church. They married in Truman, Minnesota on May 9, 1943. She was at her husband's side during the remaining 37 years of his medical practice. Earl retired in 1980. The couple moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where they lived until returning to Iowa in 1992. They settled in Clear Lake and enjoyed nine years close to family and friends, old and new. Earl died March 2, 2001. Jane moved to Homestead Assisted Living, Mason City, Iowa in 2002 and to the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell, Iowa where she resided until her death. A devoted member of the Salem U.M. Church during her years in Meservey, Jane taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Federated Womens Club and held local and state offices during her active membership years. She was an avid bowler and bridge player and nurtured lasting friendships throughout her lifetime. Jane was filled with an abiding faith in her Lord that carried her from the hills of Kentucky to the farmlands of Iowa, embracing new experiences with laughter and joy. She will be remembered by family and friends as a supportive source of strength. Mildred Jane Jurgenson, 85 of Rockwell, Iowa formerly Meservey died Sunday morning, November 26, 2006 with her daughters at her side.

Jane Jurgenson is survived by daughter Susan and her husband Robert H. Pals of Meservey, daughter Judy and husband Dr. Robert Gross of Clear Lake, grandchildren Thomas Pals and wife Valerie of Alexander, Sara Pals of Meservey, Alison Gross of Queen Creek, Arizona and Cooper Gross of Vermillion, South Dakota, great-grandchildren Robert, Brianna and Brandi Pals, brother William Slusher and wife Virginia of Overland Park, Kansas, sister-in-law Faye Slusher of Meservey and beloved nieces and nephews. Her husband Earl, parents Morgan and Martha, brothers James, George, Joseph and Ronald Slusher, sisters Lucille Messer, Kathleen Bargo, Blanche Greer and Ethel Davis preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. David Wiersbe officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 28 at Ward –Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Graveside services will be Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. at the Meservey Cemetery, Meservey, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, Salem United Methodist Church, Meservey, Iowa, or Red Bird Mission, Beverly, Kentucky. WARD-VAN SLYKE COLONIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
