MASON CITY — Virginia (Ginny) Ann Halfpap, 80, of Mason City, died Sunday (Oct. 5, 2003) at Hospice of North Iowa. Burial will be at the Meservey Cemetery.Virginia was born March 13, 1923, in Meservey, Iowa, to Frank and Grace (Sloss) Nissen. She graduated from Meservey High School, Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She was an avid basketball player while in high school and a championship archer while at the Iowa Teachers College. Her teaching career spanned seven years, at Dumont, Ackley, and Ventura schools. Virginia was united in marriage to Richard Halfpap on June 10, 1950, in Meservey. In 1952 they moved to Thornton where they farmed for 44 years. After the passing of her husband in 1996 Ginny moved to Mason City. Virginia was as avid reader, pianist, and seamstress. A lifelong member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Meservey, she was actively involved in teaching Sunday school and playing the organ.She is survived by her family, Doug and Kayla Halfpap of Mason City, David and Nancy Halfpap of Cedar Rapids, and grandchildren, Jason Halfpap and his wife, Jen, of West Des Moines, Joshua Halfpap of Guam, Emily Halfpap-Murray and her husband, Brett, of Hutchinson, Kan., Aaron Halfpap of St. Paul, Minn., Colin Halfpap of Mason City, and Emily and Aaron’s mother, Deb Halfpap. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and brother Richard (Bud) Nissen (1986). Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.
