Emma Johnson, 102, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday January 22, 2009 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday January 26, 2009 at the Celebration Center, Friendship Haven with the Rev. Anita Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Callender Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. on Monday in the Celebration Center.

Emma was born July 31, 1906 the daughter of Victor and Emma (Wessel) Carlson in Thor, Iowa. She moved with the family to Fort Dodge in 1917 and was employed by Mercy Hospital and the overall factory for a number of years. Emma was united in marriage to Verne Johnson on July 25, 1927 and the couple moved to Harcourt where her husband owned and operated a barber shop. The couple resided in Harcourt for 9 years before moving to Callender where they lived for 43 years. Following Verne's death in 1982 Emma moved to the Warden Apts. in Fort Dodge and later to Friendship Haven. Over the years Emma taught Sunday School and enjoyed numerous church activities. Mrs. Johnson is survived by many nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, husband and eight siblings. Bruce-Graham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
