Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaCOLLEYVILLE, Texas - Carol LaVonne Sheker passed away at her home in Colleyville, Texas on January 12, 2009 surrounded by her family. LaVonne, as she was known to family and friends, was born December 30, 1925, at her home near Vincent, Iowa. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School and was a graduate of the Tobin Business College. After graduation from Tobin, she worked in the office of Fort Dodge Bottling Works. She married Clyde Sheker at the St. Olaf Parsonage on March 15, 1948. She resided with her husband in Fort Dodge until moving to Texas in 2001.
She is survived by her husband Clyde; her daughter Sue (Steve) Gajewsky and grandson Mike, of Colleyville, Texas; her sons Dr. Bill (Nancy) Sheker of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin and granddaughters Dr. Carol (Mike) Main of Spicer, Minnesota and Mary (Nate) Saeger of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Dr. Mark Sheker of Nekoosa, Wisconsin and Mike (Lotta) Sheker of Apple Valley, Minnesota and grandsons Alex and Adam. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents Lenus and Matilda Ekstrom; her sisters Helen Westre, Edna Laurent, Elsie Willey and Agnes Hoffmann; her brothers Emil and Ray Ekstrom, daughter-in-law Gay (Mark) Sheker and niece Donna Reynolds. She also leaves behind nieces Leila Wilson, Barb Schulze, Kathy Dencklau and Carol Ekstrom and nephews Dale Westre, Dick Laurent, Bob and Kent Ekstrom and Dean and Keith Ekstrom.
LaVonne was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Czech Heritage. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, fishing, trips to the casinos and traveling to visit new places. Most of all she enjoyed her family and friends. She was happiest having coffee with her dear friends Phyllis St. John, Rosemary Girard, Lee Wilson and Evelyn Johnson. LaVonne will be dearly missed by her friends and especially her family who loved her guidance, consul, sense of humor, keen intellect and most of all, her caring and loving nature. We will carry her in our memories. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to 7600 Kennedy Drive, Colleyville, TX 76034.
