Former Garner resident, Lorraine Swalve, of Fremont, California, died on Thursday, December 20, 2001, at Hayward, California. She was 78. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 28, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, with the Rev. Dean Stille officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Margaret Jass who will accompany congregational hymns. Ushers will be Dean Goll, Bob Gray and Loren Kalkwarf. Casket bearers will be Douglas Lemke, Daniel Juhl, Andrew Juhl, Merlyn Borchers, Garland Brinkman and Robert Pellett. Interment will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner and one hour prior to services at the church. The Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner is in charge of the arrangements.

Lorraine Swalve, the daughter of Bernard and Cecil (Bryant) Knoll, was born on December 6, 1923 at Belmond. At an early age, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Garner and later into Garner. She graduated from the Garner High School in 1941, as valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Garner and then Maben Insurance for several years. On May 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond B. Swalve. They lived in Garner until the summer of 1970 when they moved to Fremont, California. Lorraine was a devoted homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond of Fremont, California; two sisters, Irma Haaf of Garner and LaVon Lemke of Garner; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Elmer Knoll; and three sisters, Elsie Dorenkamp, Isabelle Dankbar and Reta Juhl.
