MASON CITY - Robert C. Paul, 74, of 347 Willowbrook Dr., died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Dahlin officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, with a flag presentation and taps provided by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and will continue on hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the Robert C. Paul Memorial Fund.

Robert was born July 14, 1926, in Eddyville, Iowa, the son of Chester and Harmina (Lamis) Paul. The family remained in Eddyville where Robert graduated from high school. After graduation he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force serving in the United States and Germany. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Iowa to attend the University of Northern Iowa. Following graduation he was employed as a teacher and coached basketball and baseball. After coaching a few years, he left the teaching profession and moved to Illinois as an insurance agent for Life Investors Insurance. He was transferred to Indianola, Iowa, in 1956 and in 1966 was transferred to Mason City and made general manager for Life Investors Co. He held that position until 1978 when he purchased Mason City Glass. Robert was a member of First United Methodist Church, enjoyed all the outdoor sports, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling and motorcycle trips with his wife across the country. Another of his great joys was being able to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hoffman of Renwick.

Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Mason City; two sons, Gary Paul and his wife, Sharon, of Stanley, Kan., and Gregory Paul and his wife, Patty, of Mason City; a daughter, Mindy Paul, of Sante Fe, N. M.; and four grandchildren, Kristin Smith and her husband, Art, of Liberty, Mo, Courtney Paul of Stanley, Kan., Jason Paul of San Antonio, Texas, and Joshua Paul of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
