RENWICK — Wilbur Nissen, 92, of Renwick, died Monday (May 12, 2003) at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Renwick Baptist Church in Renwick, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Inurnment will be in Vernon Township Cemetery in rural Hardy. Visitation will be held anytime between now and the time of services on Friday at the Larry Liscum residence in Renwick. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Renwick.

Funeral services for Wilbur Nissen, 92, Renwick, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 16, at the Renwick Baptist Church in Renwick, with burial in the Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Hardy. He died Monday, May 12, 2003, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, in Des Moines. The Garry-Robers-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Renwick is in charge of the arrangements, with Pastor Jerry Newland officiating. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. conducted by Viona Lodge #538 A.F.&A.M. of Renwick.

...He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leola, and two brothers, Hermand and Maurice Nissen.

Wilbur Nissen, son of William C. and Marie (Sandvold) Nissen, was born, Aug., 4, 1910, at Corwith. He received his education in Renwick, graduation from the Renwick High School in 1929. He then attended the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, for two years. After his schooling, he worked with his father in the meat market business in Renwick, Rowan and Corwith. He then started farming north of Renwick. In January, 1934, he was united in marriage to Leola Richardson at her parents' home in Renwick. The couple continued farming until 1946. They moved into Renwick, where he worked in pluming, heating and electrical business until 1994, when he retired. His wife died in May, 1999.

He was an active member of the Renwick Baptist Church, where he had been the chairman of the Board of Deacons and was presently an honorary Deacon; was a 50 year member and Past Master of Viona Lodge #538; a former member of the former Gertrude Chapter #500, Renwick, and the Eagle Chapter #114, Eagle Grove, Order of the Eastern Star. As a resident of Renwick, he was very active in the town's operation and promotion. He was the former fire chief, served on the ambulance crew, and was also a member of the Renwick Commercial Club, former member of the Renwick School Board, and served as a Boy Scout Scout Scoutmaster for many years.
