Frank C. "Bart" Bartholomew, a former Gresham High School principal and assistant superintendent, died Jan. 3 1997, in Mariposa, Calif., at age 91. A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in Gresham United Methodist Church. Mr. Bartholomew was born Sept. 5, 1905, in Hardy, Iowa. He graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a high school teacher in Iowa before becoming football coach in Gresham. Mr. Bartholomew served Gresham Union High District for 40 years -- from 1931 until he retired in 1971. Besides being assistant superintendent and principal, he was a classroom teacher, track coach and the district's director of purchasing and transportation. He moved to California in 1995. He married Mariam Platts in 1932. She survives along with his son, Frank Jr. of Mariposa, Calif.; sisters, Esther Bartholomew and Ruth Nichols, both of Portland; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gresham. Arrangements are by Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel.
