James LeRoy Larson, age 71, formerly of Mankato, died Friday, January 25, 2008 at his home in Allen, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 1, 2008 at Evangelical Free Church, Wesley, Iowa with Jason Boomgarden officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm, Thursday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Wesley and one hour prior to service at church on Friday.

James was born on May 13, 1936 to Arthur and Adah (Simpson) Larson. As a child he lived in Wesley, Renwick and Buffalo Center, Iowa. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1954. He enlisted in the Army in February 1956 and served 3 years active duty. He was united in marriage to Janice Kiewiet on August 15, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center. They moved to Mankato in 1959 where he attended Mankato Commercial College and worked for Holiday station stores until joining Kato Engineering Company in 1962. They moved to Texas in 1981 where he retired from Kato Engineering after working for over 25 years. At the time of his death he was semi-retired from Sunbelt Power. James enjoyed fishing, golfing, crafting, playing guitar and banjo, singing country music and his family and pets.

James is survived by his wife, Janice; 2 daughters, Lori (Tom) Warrant of Mankato and Nanci (significant other, Keith Lee) of Rochester, MN; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Pat) Janzen, John Warrant (fiance, Toni Kopachek), Jacqueline (Rodney) Cooper, James Larson, Bradly Brown, Ashley and Hannah Terrell; 5 great-grandchildren, Mason, Madelyn, Magen, Hailey and Brice; 2 brothers, Duane (Audrey) Larson of Wesley and Thomas (Cheri) Larson of Titonka; several relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
