SHEFFIELD - Lena Cornelia Butson, 86, of Hampton, Iowa passed away Sunday (Dec. 14, 2008) at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Reformed Church rural Shefield, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. The Rev. Arthur Zewert will officiate the service.

She was born on Aug. 3, 1922, in Kanawha, Iowa, to Ubbe and Annie (Betten) Smidt. Lena attended rural country schools in Kanawha. She married K. Vernon Butson on Feb. 17, 1953, in Kanawha. Lena was a homemaker. She was a member of the Zion Reformed Church. Lena enjoyed making quilts for all of the grandchildren, sewing, baking, camping and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Lena was an active leader of 4-H.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce and husband, John and their children, Katie, Erin, Matthew Kelley of Nora Springs; son, Dale and wife Janeen and their children, Kyle, Andrea Butson and Colt and wife, Kara Powers and their children Hope, Remington and Joseph Powers of Hampton; son, Darwin and wife Teresa and their children, Abby, Connor and Sam Butson of Hampton; sister, Anna and husband, Robert Stock, of Chapin; brother, Hensmen Smidt, of Kanawha; brother-in-law, Bob and wife, Birdell Butson, of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Mathilda Butson, of Hampton. Lena is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a infant son.
