Sonny Lappegard the son of Casper and Dorothy (Halverson) Lappegard, was born September 5, 1933 in Alcester, South Dakota. He died on Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 74. He received his education in the Alcester schools. Sonny served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from military service he returned to the area. In January of 1958, Sonny was united in marriage to Delores Helmick in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple made their home on a farm north of Estherville until 1973. Then the family moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa and Sonny was employed by a trucking firm. In 1976, the family moved to Superior, Iowa and he continued trucking. Following his retirement he worked part time and helped Gary Rouse with hog farming. In his leisure time Sonny loved his horses and he finally got to adopt a wild Mustang. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish Sonny's memory are his wife, Delores of Superior, his children, Rhonada Paplow and her husband, Gary of Worthington, Minnesota; Rhonda Stephens and her husband, Jeff of Jackson, Minnesota; Roxanne Richardson and special friend, Donnie of Estherville; Roger Lappegard of Estherville; Ross Lappegard and his wife, Tina of Estherville; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Virginia Scott and her husband, Bob of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Curtis Lappegard of Estherville; Bob Lappegard and his wife, Anna of Dickens, Iowa; LeRoy Lappegard and his wife, Nancy of Tomah, Wisconsin; Richard Lappegard and his wife, Kathy of Marathon, Iowa; and Jeannette Brown of Spencer, Iowa. He has been preceded in death by his parents; brother, Timothy and sister, Dorothy.
