Mary Jane Brack was born January 26, 1914, in Woolstock, Iowa, daughter of Franklin and Elizabeth (Jones) Lewis. She moved with her family to the family farm southwest of Lakota in 1921. Mary Jane graduated from Ledyard High School in 1931 and then teachers college at Cedar Falls obtaining her teaching degree. Mary Jane taught at Grant Country School for 5 years. She was united in marriage to Wilson William Brack on June 12, 1938, at First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. They operated the Ledyard General Store until 1951 and built a new Store in Lakota for a Super Value retiring in 1974. Mary Jane was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota holding many offices. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and loved being with her family.
Mary Jane Brack died Monday, September 18, 2006 at the Titonka Care Center, at the age of 92. She is survived by a son, Roger Brack and his wife Diane of New Market, MN; a grandson, Aaron Brack of Savage, MN; a sister, Fern Hassebroek of Del Ray Beach, FL; a sister-in-law, Aleatheia Miller of Buffalo Center; and ten nieces and nephews, Betty Nelson of Chapel Hill, NC, Frank Lewis of Alexandria, MN, Richard Lewis of Elysian, MN, Virgil Lewis of Mankato, MN, Eileen Boerner of Northbrook, IL, Jane Dusovsky of San Francisco, CA, Patricia Ellefson of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, Connie Berg of Lakota, Mickey Miller of Washington, DC and Pricilla Miller of Buffalo Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilson on January 2, 2000; and four brothers, Virgil, Hugh, Howard, and Lawrence Lewis.
