OMER KENNETH PAYNE
Omer K. Payne was born the son of Edward and Mary Marston Payne on November 7, 1903 in Maryville, Missouri and died at the Guthrie County hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa on February 15, 2005 at the age of 101 years, 3 months and 8 days. Omer moved to the Dexter/Earlham area at age seven and went on to graduate from Dexter High School. Omer and Olive Wernli were married June 6, 1925 in Adel, Iowa. This union was blessed with 6 children: Virginia, Kenneth, Betty, Joan, Thomas and Truman. Omer was a farmer in the Earlham area. He also served for many years on the Madison County Fair Board and was also a Madison County Supervisor. Omer and Olive retired to Lake Panorama, where Omer worked for the Guthrie County Sanitation Department as a soil tester. He was also involved with restoring and repairing furniture. Omer made all kinds of craft items such as clocks out of saw blades, horse collar mirrors, etc. to name a few. He and Olive would go to craft shows in Eagle Grove and Branson to sell their treasures. They traveled around the country to visit relatives in Washington, Colorado, Arizona and Illinois.
Omer is survived by the following family: daughter Betty Warren and husband Carroll of Carlisle, IA; daughter Virginia Grove and husband Delbert of Adair, IA; son Truman Payne and wife Sheri of Earlham, IA; sister Dorothy Winn of Sun City, AZ; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 17 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Olive, son Thomas, son Kenneth, daughter Joan, granddaughter Patricia Hermon, great-grandson Benjamin Payne, and great-granddaughter Kara Payne.In Loving Memory of
