DODGE CITY. KS- Leona Arlene Gjerstad, 88, died Oct. 25, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City, Kansas. She was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Blue Earth, Minn., the daughter of Otis and Alta Harvey Lane. She attended schools in Webster County, Iowa, and graduated from Thor High School. She was a resident of Thor, Iowa, moving to Livermore, Iowa, in 1941. She retired to Dodge City in 1979. She was a farmer. She belonged to Christ the King Lutheran Church and Senior Friends, both of Dodge City.

On Sept. 6, 1939, she married Harold Gjerstad. He preceded her in death. Survivors include: three sons, Phil, Dodge City, Dean, Auburn, Ala., and Jay, Indianola, Iowa; a daughter, Diane Gjerstad, Wichita; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son; three brothers, Floyd, Everett and Delmer.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Memorials may be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dyck Arboretum of the Plains or to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
