Marie Gladys McConkie, 93, of 100 Thompson Dr. SE, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Mercy Hallmar, following a short illness. Memorial services are planned at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Westminster Presbyterian Church following a private inurnment at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Herbert Isenberg will officiate. Turner Chapel East is in charge of the arrangements.

Marie was born in Vincent, Iowa, on Dec. 13, 1904, the daughter of Harvey Houck and Jessie Quibell Houck of Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, in 1930 and was a primary education teacher in the Cedar Rapids public schools for several years. She married Dr. Edwin Bruce McConkie, son of Dr. and Mrs. W.A. McConkie of Cedar Rapids, on Aug. 15, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Chapter HJ, PEO, Cedar Rapids Country Club and served as a volunteer in the St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E.B. McConkie, and two sisters, Nellie Johnson and Mildred Houck, both of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Brinda of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Dr. John McConkie of Danville, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Fox of Wausau, Wis., and Jane Houck of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, David Brinda of Santa Clara, Calif., Jennifer Brinda Moyer of Seattle, Wash., Mary McConkie of Arlington, Va., and Eric McConkie, a Peace Corps volunteer in Lochow, Poland; and a great- granddaughter, Haley Brinda. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the charity of the donor's choice.
