The Rev. Palmer Loken, 77, of 1906 S. Prairie, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at his home. He was born April 28, 1922, in Lincoln County. He moved with his family to rural Butler. He then graduated from Augustana College, receiving a bachelor of theology from Luther Seminary at St. Paul, Minn. Later, he received his MST from Chicago Lutheran Seminary at Maywood, Ill. He was ordained at Butler Lutheran Church in 1945, and then moved to Maskell, Neb., where he was installed to serve Nebraska churches, including Zion Lutheran Church at Maskell, Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Obert and First Lutheran Church at Wynot, Neb.

He married Annabelle Anderson of Garretson, Aug. 26, 1946. Other parishes served include Pleasant Valley and First Lutheran Churches at Wakonda Washington Lutheran, Duncombe and South Enes at Vincent, Iowa and St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Bode, Iowa. He retired from active ministry in 1976 after suffering a stroke.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Jeffrey of Dakota City, Iowa three daughters: Judy Siems of Sheffield, Iowa, Joan Berdahl of Hills, Minn., and Jane Stumme of Sumner, Iowa 12 grandchildren two great-grandchildren and a brother, Dr. Merle of Buffalo, Minn. Services begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church at Sioux Falls, with a private graveside service at a later date. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer and sharing service at Heritage Chapel, with family present. In lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Lutheran World Relief, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Augustana College or charity of your choice.
