Alberta James, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2008. Born in Thor, Iowa and raised in Longmont, Colorado, she was the youngest of seven daughters of Albert and Julia Anderson. Alberta attended Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado, and Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, where she was the M-Men's Queen at the University of Missouri. It was there that she met the love of her life, Jiggs James. They were married in 1941 and celebrated their 66th anniversary last August. Alberta was a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri, Mission Hills Country Club, the River Club, the Carriage Club, Garden of the Gods Club and Kissing Camels. She is survived by her loving husband, Jiggs; her daughter, Dani James (Skip Quimby); her son, Jigger James (Traci); five grandchildren: Brian Blond (Judy), Allison Haggerty (Mike), Brooke Wood (Scott), Kyndra James, Jessie James, J.J. James; and three great grandchildren: Alexis and Zachary Blond, and Lauren Haggerty. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Heart of America Chapter, 6950 Squibb Road, Suite 310, Mission, KS 66202. Arrangements by: D.W.
