Leo Schweitzer is Dead in Iowa
Leo G. Schweitzer, former Crawfordsville resident and a "pioneer" in organizing local bands and orchestras, died Sun. morning when he suffered a heart attack in his automobile near Eagle Grove, Iowa, his home. Mr. Schweitzer, 67, had been in excellent health, his death coming as an unexpected shock to relatives and friends. He was born in this city May 13, 1875, the son of Christ & Theresa Schweitzer. He was educated in the local schools and helped in the organization of several local bands and orchestras. Many may recall him as the director of the orchestra at the old Music Hall and later, the Strand theater. During the first World War he was a YMCA worker and secretary. he belonged to the Elks and the Masonic Lodges. Surviving are a son, Theodore Schweitzer, Lafayette; a daughter, Mary Mildred Schweitzer, teacher in the local schools; a sister, Mrs. Wm. Hunt of Houston, Texas, and two brothers, Richard of Knightstown, Ind; and Herman of Webster City, Iowa. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Members of the family have gone to Eagle Grove, Ia; to make funeral arrangements.

Schweitzer Services Held in Eagle Grove Funeral Parlors
EAGLE GROVE — Funeral services for Leo G. Schweitzer, 67, of Webster City, formerly of Eagle Grove, were held at the funeral parlors of Kubitschek & Kastler here Tuesday at 10 a. m. in charge of the Rev. J. R. Tumbleson of the Methodist church. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove. Surviving are one daughter, Mary M. Schweitzer, Crawfordsville, Ind.; a son, Theodore, in LaFayette, Ind.; a brother Herman, Webster City; a brother Richard, in Knightstown, Ind., and a sister in Texas. Mr. Schweitzer was a band and orchestra leader and had charge of the city band in Eagle Grove and the boys' band ten years ago. Alter leaving this city he had charge of the band in Goldfield for a time. He was found dead in his car near Woolstock Saturday night, evidently having suffered a heart attack.

L. G. Schweitzer, 67, was found dead in his car in the yard at the Ernest Hanus farm about midnight Saturday night. Mr. Schweitzer was director of the Eagle Grove band and had charge of music in the high school some 10 years ago. He had been teaching music in Webster City for several years. He was at the Hanus home Saturday evening and left the house to get his car and return to Webster City. He was discovered slumped over the steering wheel around midnight. A son who lives in Lafayette, Ind., and a daughter, Miss Mary Mildred Schweitzer of Crawfordsville, Ind. survive.Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home with the Rev. J. R. Tumbleson in charge. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Obituary
Leo G. Schweitzer, son of Christ and Theresa Schweitzer was born in Crawfordsville, Ind. May 13, 1875. He grew to manhood in Crawfordsville, and taught music there in the public schools, and led bands in the surrounding territory. He was a director of recreational center in the Y. M. C. A. during the first World War. He came to Eagle Grove some 16 or 17 years ago, where he took up the teaching of music in bands and orchestras in this community. He taught in the Eagle Grove schools for a time.
Mr. Schweitzer died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday evening. Surviving relatives are a son, Theodore Schweitzer, of Lafayette, Ind.; a daughter, Mary Mildred Schweitzer of Crawfordsville, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. W. M. Hunt of Houston, Texas; two brothers. Richard Schweitzer of Knightstown, Nev., and Herman Schweitzer of Webster City, Iowa; also, several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Schweitzer was a member of the Methodist church in Crawfordsville. He was also a member of the B. P. O. E. of that place. For a time, he was a member of the Masonic lodge in Eagle Grove.
Rev. J. R. Tumbleson officiated at the funeral services Tuesday morning. Interment was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
Out of town relatives in attendance were the son and daughter from Indiana, and the brother from Webster City.
