Harvey Horton, 85, of Osakis, died Monday, Nov. 23,1998, at the Hennepin County Medical Center Burn Unit in Minneapolis. Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Osakis Lutheran Church with Rev. Alice Tobler officiating. Interment was in Gordon Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Osakis.
Harvey Horton was born Jan. 29, 1913, Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Harvey and Gertrude (McVicker) Horton. He married Margaret Crovisier Feb. 22, 1938, in Eagle Grove. They farmed together in Eagle Grove and then Duncombe, Iowa, until 1956 when they moved to a farm near Osakis. From 1957 to 62 he was employed for the John Deere Implement dealership, first owned by Maus & Blume and later by Lindquist. He was a past member of the Gordon Township Board, serving as supervisor for several years. He had also served on the country school board. He had many hobbies and interests. He liked being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to go netting for whitefish each fall and would smoke the catch himself. He also liked to treat his friends to the homemade head cheese he would make. In late summer, Harvey would keep busy out in the garden tending his big watermelon and cantaloupe patch or you might find him in is shop welding.
He is survived by his children, Harvey and LeAnn Horton of Andover, Larry and Sarah Horton of Sauk Centre, John Horton of Osakis, Charles and Susan Horton of Springfield, Ill., Beverly Miller of Pittsburgh, Pa., Wilma and Denny Jensen of Blaine; brother, Russell Horton of Fort Dodge, IA.; two sisters, Emily Fischer of Webster City, IA and Daisy Blanche Grandgeorge of Iowa Falls, IA; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret in June of 1988; son-in-law, Darrell Miller; sisters, Julia Shirley Withers, Edna Eunice Withers. Pallbearers were Craig and Brad Miller, David Horton, Peter Uphus, Keith Jensen, Dan Kurry, Steven Horton and Lenny Boylan.
