Brian Buhner, 60, pizza parlor operator, avid coin collector

Brian Clarence Buhner was born to Clarence and Dolores (Halgrim) Buhner on March 20, 1948, in Webster City, Iowa, where he was raised and received his education. After his graduation from Webster City High School, he attended Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove. On January 15, 1969, he was drafted into the Army and served in Korea. After his discharge from the service on July 20, 1970, he returned to Webster City. On March 19, 1975, he was united in marriage to Sally Bostic in Webster City. Following their marriage, they lived in Eagle Grove. In 1976, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he operated a pizza parlor until 1984 when they moved to Montevideo, Minn., where he also operated a pizza parlor. Then, in 1987, they moved to Pipestone, Minn., where he was a rural mail carrier for the local Post Office. He retired in August of 2007. This past year, he was diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma. He fought the courageous fight, and the cancer won. He died at his home on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the age of 60 years, five months and 13 days. He attended the Methodist church in Webster City where he played the English and French hand bells. He enjoyed playing chess, cards, pool, and ping pong. He also enjoyed camping and riding motorcycles. He was an avid numismatist.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sally Buhner, of Pipestone, Minn.; three sons, Brian, II, of Pipestone, Theodore, and his wife, Krysta, of Worthington, Minn., and Bill of Pipestone; one grandchild, Bennett; his mother, Dolores Buhner of Eagle Grove; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Lubke and Marjie Oye, both of Pipestone. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; his father- and mother-in-law, Don and Sylvia Bostic; and one sister-in-law, Donna Johnson. The Hartquist Funeral Home, Pipestone Chapel, Pipestone, Minn., was in charge of the arrangements.
