Duane Gordon Peterson, the son of Ralph and Nora (Olson) Peterson, was born at Holmes, Iowa on July 23, 1922. He attended grade schools at rural Goldfield and Holmes and graduated from Clarion High School. Duane was baptized, confirmed and was always a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church.

Duane Peterson and Dorothy Nickles were married January 1, 1944, and they lived at Holmes, Iowa until they moved to Eagle Grove and cared for Duane’s mother in later years. Duane farmed with his father and later was employed by Smithway Motor Xpress in Fort Dodge. Duane enjoyed high school wrestling meets and watching sports on television, especially college wrestling. He was also devoted to AA and enjoyed visiting with friends.

Duane died Monday, September 15, 2008, at Humboldt, Iowa at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Linda Portwine, Dale Peterson and Patricia Peterson; and brother-in-law, Bernard and son-in- law, Eusilious (Ike) Wilhelm. Duane is survived by his wife Dorothy of 64 years; daughter, Doris Wilhelm of Fort Dodge; and nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one sister, Margaret Anderson of Garner, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Goldfield United Methodist Church, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion, Iowa. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
