Mrs. Catherine M. Bruns passed away at the home of her son Monday evening May 4, [1925]. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church. Catherine M. Bruns was born at Leer at Ostfriesland, Germany October 1, 1840. and was at the time of her death 84 years, 7 months and three days old. She was united in marriage to U. I. Bruns and came to the U.S. in 1865 with their three small children, settling in Clarion, Iowa. She moved to Lopez Island, this state in November, 1899, where Mr. Bruns died in January 1904.

After his death she came to Lynden making her home with her youngest son A. H. Bruns. At an early age she became a member of the German Lutheran Church but after coming to Iowa, she affiliated with the Congregational and was an active member in both church and Sunday School until prevented by illness. Her unfailing cheerfulness and sunny disposition gathered to her many friends who brightened the last declining years of her life, confined as she was to a wheelchair. She is survived by seven sons and one daughter, all residents of this state except one, who resides in Milford, Iowa, and thirty grand children and six great grandchildren.
