ALEXANDER - Jollene A. Jaacks, 73, of Alexander, most recently of the Belmond Health Care Center, died Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2007) at the Belmond Health Care Center surrounded by the love of her family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Alexander with the Rev. Friested, officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E. in Belmond, and continue one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Jollene's name may wish to direct them to the family.
Jollene Ann Tinkey, the daughter, of William and Grace (Pals) Tinkey was born Jan. 23, 1904, in Alexander. She attended Alexander schools and graduated from Alexander High School in the class of 1952. Jollene was united in marriage to Marvin Dean Jaacks on May 19, 1953, at the United Methodist Church in Alexander. Their union was blessed with four children, Greg, Jeff, Steve and Kim. Jollene was a lifelong homemaker, wonderful partner and wife to her husband of over 50 years, nurturing mother, and loving grandmother. She had been employed for periods of time in the kitchen at CAL Community Schools and in housekeeping at the Belmond Medical Center. Her family was first and foremost in her life as she boundlessly gave of her time and energy to be sure they had each of their needs met. She always strived to put others needs before those of her own. Her family will reflect fondly upon so many wonderful memories of Jollene and her excellent meals and desserts that were prepared with her loving hands. Jollene looked forward to having her family together at meal times.
Her husband, children, and their families will cherish memories of spending the holidays with Jollene and Marvin. They will remember her countless specialties, whether it was a meal of specken decken, roast, pork chops, and riced potatoes and gravy, or any of her many wonderful meals. Jollene would always be sure that their were delicious desserts such as rhubarb, or delicious sweets such as brownies, cookies, or one of her made from scratch pies. Her cooking and baking skills were superb.
Jollene always looked forward to any opportunity to spend time in the presence of her family. She enjoyed spectating at many of her children and grandchildren's extracurricular activities, be it a baseball game or other event in which they participated. Her and Marvin had also enjoyed some traveling. They had been on a trip to Hawaii and cruise to Cozumel over the years. Jollene looked for to relaxing in the flowers, gardening, and feeding and watching the birds and squirrels .
Jollene was active in the United Methodist Church of Alexander, her lifelong church in many different roles. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school and held various church offices. She had also served her lifelong community of Alexander through her many years on the Alexander Cemetery Society.
Jollene's family will deeply miss her presence in their lives and the wonderful nurturing and caring home that she strived to help provide for each of them. They will hold precious memories of those wonderful gifts she made in the kitchen, her concern for their needs and willingness to give them direction, and most of all her love and kindness she provided to them as a wife, mother, grandmother, sibling, and friend.
Jollene's legacy will be carried on in the hearts and minds of her husband of more than 54 years, Marvin Jaacks, of Alexander; her sons, Greg and wife, Donna Jaacks, of Belmond, Jeff and wife, Beth Jaacks, of Hampton, Steve Jaacks of Alexander; grandchildren, Trisha Jaacks of Clear Lake, Sandy Willms of Belmond, Lindsey Jaacks of Sheffield, Jeremy Jaacks of Hampton, and Luke Smith of Alexander; her great-grandchildren, Samantha Smith of Alexander, Ashlynn Willms and Ashton Willms, both of Belmond; her sister, Loraine Halfwassen and husband, John, of Belmond, and Dilene Orpen of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Grace; her daughter, Kim Smith, in 1980; her brother, Loren Tinkey, in 1960; a sister, Lois Bryan and a brother, Delbert Tinkey, both in 2006.
