O. H. Grupe, 83, retired chief chemist and manufacturing superintendent of the Speas Company vinegar plant here, died Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at his home on Lamar Road, Paris, Rt. 2. He had been in failing health the past two years. Funeral services, Saturday at 11 a.m., will be held in Fry and Gibbs chapel by the Rev. C. G. Forthman of First Presbyterian Church. Interment is to be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Grupe leaves his wife, the former Miss Bessie Montgomery, whom he married 18 May 1903, in Battle Creek, Mich.; these children: Mrs. George C. Wall, Paris; Mrs. John B. McCormick, Kansas City, Mo., and Dr. Harold E. Grupe, Portland, Oreg.; 13 other descendants; these sisters: Mrs. Will Orpin, Dows, Iowa; Mrs. Ed Nolte, Popejoy, Iowa, and Mrs. Burr A. Stewart, and a brother, Charles O. Grupe, both of Roberts, Wisc.

Born in Iowa, 5 Jan 1881, son of Charles N. and Matilda (Hanssen) Grupe, Otto Henry Grupe joined the O.L. Gregory Vinegar Company at Siloam Springs, Ark., in 1910, moving to its Paris plant in 1917. He remained with the company, since acquired by the Speas interests, until his retirement in 1947.
