Edith Kennedy, 96, Stratford, died Thursday, Feb 7, at the Stratford Care Center, where she had been a resident since 1982. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Webster City, David Kinnick officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City is today, and until 9 a.m. Saturday, when the casket will be taken to the church. There will also then be visitation at the church until service time.
Edith Kennedy, daughter of Enno R. and Anna Katherine (Luft) Schmidt, was born May 11, 1894, in Salix, Iowa, in Woodbury County. She was educated in the Salix and Gilbert schools. She married William Kennedy on Feb 25 1914. The couple farmed in Hamilton and Wright counties. Following the death of Mr. Kennedy in 1942, she moved to Clarion in 1943. She moved to the Stratford Care Center in 1982.
She is survived by five daughters, Ramona (Mrs. J. Harold) Williams, Stratford; Dorothy (Mrs. Jack) Foster, East Moline, Ill.; Deloris Moon, Corwith; Iris Mae Bagnard, St. Charles, Mo.; Zola (Mrs. David) Kinnick, Footville, Wis,; a son, James Kennedy, Topeka, Kan.; 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister Pearl Knight, Webster City; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Kennedy; a daughter, Shirley Scott; a great-grandson; her parents; a brother and a sister.
Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Clarion Garden Club for 25 years; and the Church of Christ in Clarion, where she taught Sunday School for 43 years.
