James W. Kepler, 59, of Des Moines, a former Webster City resident, died Tuesday evening at the Veterans' Memorial hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Foster Funeral home with Ronald L. Culp officiating and with burial in Cass Center cemetery. Flagfolding services will be held at graveside, sponsored by the American Legion Post 191. Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home from Friday morning until the time of services.
James William Kepler, son of James Willian Sherman and Myrtle Hannah Bowman Kepler, was born Aug. 28, 1917, at Webster City and was reared and educated in Webster City. He farmed northeast of Webster City near Stonega and on May 21, 1937, he was married to Venetta Yoder, and the couple continued farming in the Stonega area. In 1944, he entered the U.S. armed services. In 1946, he was wounded in action and returned to Webster City. He was employed by Naden Industries for a short time before moving to Des Moines in 1957 and had been semi-retired since.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters and one son, Mrs. John (Marlene) Grove of Des Moines, Mrs. Alvin (Sandra) Snyder of Rome, N.Y., and James G. Kepler, Webster City, and Mrs. George (Garnett) Flatt of Omaha; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Hudson of Webster City and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Riley of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by one daughter; his parents, two grandchildren; two brothers and one sister.
He was a former member of the Church of Christ.
