Michael L. McPeak, 56, died Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Ames with Father Terry Rassmussen presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 17 at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Mike was born on September 17, 1947 in Fort Dodge. He was raised on a farm near Renwick and graduated from Boone Valley High School in Renwick. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a paratrooper of the 173rd and 82nd Airborne Divisions in the United States, Germany and Viet Nam. On June 21, 1969 he married Pamella Peterson. He continued his education and was a certified fight engineer on the DC9 and flew as a captain on both DC9s and MD80s. Other ratings included Airline Transport Pilot, Airline Multiengine Land, Commercial Privileges, and Airplane Single Engine Land. Mike was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Airline Safety Inspector assigned to American Airlines.

Survivors included his wife, Pam McPeak of Ames; daughter, Tricia (Joel) Blanchard of Canton, ME; son, Brian (Vanessa) McPeak of Livermore Falls, ME; three grandchildren; mother, Maxine McPeak of Renwick; and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, Milford McPeak and an infant brother.
